Privacy Policy
We respect your privacy. This policy explains what information is handled, how device permissions are utilized, and why your data remains under your complete control.
Introduction
Welcome to OMR Check ("we", "us", or "our"), an independent mobile application created and maintained to provide fast, reliable, and privacy-respecting Optical Mark Recognition evaluation. We are firmly committed to safeguarding your privacy and ensuring that your personal and organizational data remains confidential, secure, and under your sole custody.
This Privacy Policy describes our practices concerning the collection, storage, handling, and protection of information when you download, install, or use the OMR Check application. By accessing or using OMR Check, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the practices outlined in this policy.
If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please discontinue using the application and uninstall it from your device.
Information We Collect
Our core product philosophy is data minimization. We deliberately build our applications so that they do not require an account, login, or personal profile to operate.
We do not collect, monitor, or upload student names, identification numbers, exam responses, marked bubble coordinates, or test grades to any external server. All educational records and sheet evaluation results remain exclusively stored on your local device.
Depending on your usage, the following limited types of information may be handled:
- Directly Provided Information: When you contact developer support or provide feedback via email (ymanoj802@gmail.com), we receive your email address, your name (if provided in your email client), and the specific content of your message.
- Device & Diagnostic Information (Non-Identifiable): If enabled by your operating system, we may receive anonymized technical crash logs (such as OS version, device model, and stack traces) to resolve software bugs and optimize application stability.
- Local Configuration Data: Answer keys, template layouts, and scanner calibration preferences that you configure within the app are saved locally in the application's sandboxed storage.
How We Use Information
Any information processed through OMR Check is utilized solely for legitimate operational and technical purposes, including:
- Providing Core Functionality: Processing optical mark evaluation algorithms in real time to score sheets and display accurate evaluation statistics.
- Local Report Generation: Allowing you to compile, review, and export CSV/PDF grade sheets directly onto your device.
- Customer Support: Responding directly to technical inquiries, troubleshooting questions, or feature requests sent to our support desk.
- Product Quality Assurance: Identifying crashes, diagnosing runtime exceptions, and releasing performance enhancements.
We do not use your information, scanned images, or evaluation records for automated profiling, personalized targeted advertising, or behavioral tracking.
Camera Permission
OMR Check requires access to your device's camera hardware in order to deliver its primary capability: optical scanning and real-time detection of marked bubbles on examination forms.
- Local Frame Processing: Camera video frames are analyzed in temporary device memory solely to locate reference markers and detect bubble fills.
- No Background Recording: The camera is only active while the scanning screen is explicitly open and displayed.
- No Cloud Streaming: Live camera feeds and captured raw pictures are never transmitted to external cloud servers.
- User Revocable: You may grant or revoke camera permissions at any time via your device's Operating System Settings (under Application Permissions).
Storage Permission
Depending on your device operating system version (Android / iOS), the application may request storage or photo library permissions.
These permissions are requested strictly for the following user-initiated operations:
- Exporting Reports: Writing generated evaluation spreadsheets (CSV, Excel) and report cards (PDF) to your device's Documents or Downloads folder.
- Importing Template Files: Reading custom OMR template definitions, answer keys, or pre-captured sheet images that you intentionally select from your file manager.
We do not scan, index, read, or upload personal photos, family videos, or unrelated documents stored on your device. The app interacts strictly with files you explicitly choose to import or export.
Offline Processing
A core feature of OMR Check is complete offline functionality.
You can verify this at any time by placing your mobile device into Airplane Mode. The application will continue to perform camera recognition, bubble evaluation, answer verification, and grade computations without any degradation of functionality.
- Zero Server Dependency: Scoring logic is entirely compiled into the binary package on your device.
- Zero Telemetry of Test Contents: Test questions, correct answer keys, and student answers never traverse the public internet.
- Complete Data Sovereignty: You retain complete physical and digital custody of all evaluation material.
Data Security
We take administrative, technical, and physical precautions to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration:
- App Sandboxing: All application files, internal configuration databases, and cached data are isolated within the operating system's secure sandbox.
- Encrypted Communications: Any communication between you and our support team (e.g. emails) is conducted using Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).
- Device Encryption: Stored application data benefits from hardware-backed file encryption provided natively by iOS (Data Protection) and Android (File-Based Encryption).
While no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed 100% invulnerable, our architectural choice to keep all sensitive evaluation data offline significantly reduces remote vulnerability vectors.
Third-Party Services
We strictly believe that your educational workflows should be free from commercial tracking.
We do not sell, rent, monetize, or disclose your data or student information to data brokers, ad networks, or behavioral marketing platforms.
Our mobile application may interact with standard platform services strictly necessary for distribution and maintenance:
- Google Play Services (Android): For app delivery, security updates, and in-app purchase validation (if applicable). View their policy at Google Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store Services (iOS): For application delivery, receipts, and platform security. View their policy at Apple Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
Protecting the privacy of children and students is of paramount importance to us. OMR Check is an evaluation tool intended for use by educators, teachers, academic institutions, and adult evaluators.
In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and relevant educational privacy frameworks (such as FERPA):
- We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where applicable by local law).
- When teachers evaluate test sheets belonging to minor students, all scanned images and scored results remain solely on the educator's physical device under the direct supervision and legal authority of the school or educator.
- If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately at ymanoj802@gmail.com so we can promptly address and remove any such data.
Changes to This Policy
We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect enhancements to our application features, operational requirements, or changes in legal regulations.
When revisions occur, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Any modifications become effective immediately upon posting. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
Significant alterations that impact how we handle personal data will be communicated through prominent notices within the application or via release notes on the application distribution stores.
